Retailers seek exclusive zone, easy rules in Andhra Pradesh
Hyderabad: Representatives of retailers like Shoppers’ Stop, Walmart India, Lifestyle International, Future Retail, Trent, Reliance Retail, Raheja group and Aditya Birla group, have asked for an exclusive “retail zone” in the capital city of Andhra Pradesh.
Popular retailers have shown interest in setting up their stores in various cities and towns in AP in addition to expanding their existing stores in Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam.
CEO of Retailers Association of India Kumar Rajgopalan said that they have urged Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu to provide specific areas for setting up retail showrooms in all cities and towns including capital city on Vijayawada-Guntur stretch. The Chief Minister has asked the officials and retailers to work out a retail policy for Andhra Pradesh.
These directions were given by the Chief Minister after the retailers brought to the notice of the former, the cumbersome procedure involved in opening retail showrooms.
“Under the current policy in AP, if a retailer has to open a store or showroom in a city or town, he has to get several clearances each time he sets up a shop in a particular town or city.
We requested the CM to devise a system which will simplify the process and enable them to open new outlets through some basic guidelines every time a retail store is to be set up,” Mr Rajgopalan said.
The CM has asked the officials to put in place a system where in once a retailer gets approval to set up a store in the state, it should enable the retailer to open multiple outlets.
