Plea against Gopala Gopala
Hyderabad: After Aamir Khan-starrer PK, now it is turn for Tollywood multi-starrer Gopala Gopala to be at the receiving end of the wrath of religious rightwing groups.
An advocate approached Saifabad police alleging the film plot of Gopala Gopala hurts sentiments of Hindus in the state.
The complainant alleged that the film plot is blasphemous and a case should be booked against the makers.
However, Saifabad police officials said that they have sent the complaint to seek legal opinion and a case is yet to be registered.
The complaint was lodged by P. Raghunath, who alleged that the film deals with a sensitive issue and it would hurt religious feelings of a large section of people in the state.
“We are verifying the allegations raised by the complainant. We will decide whether to book a case only after legal experts give their opinion on the complaint,” said Saifabad Police Inspector Mr. K. Poorna Chander.
Gopala Gopala, directed by Kishore Kumar Pardasany, is a remake of the 2012 Hindi film OMG-Oh My God. Superstars Venkatesh and Pawan Kalyan are playing the lead roles in the film.
When OMG-Oh My God was released, it also had its fair share of controversies and legal cases. Jalandhar State Mahila Congress vice-president Nimisha Mehta had lodged a complaint against the lead actors, Paresh Rawal and Akshay Kumar, and the producers of the film, for hurting the religious sentiments of Hindus.
In another case, on 12 July of last year, Madhya Pradesh High Court issued a notice to Akshay Kumar and Paresh Rawal for hurting religious sentiments of Hindus.
Gopala Gopala opened to positive reviews on Saturday with viewers praising the film’s plot. D. Madhav, a software engineer from Mothi Nagar, Borabanda, said that the movie is a clean entertainer and does not hurt any religious feelings.
Despite several bids to contact the Gopala Gopala producer D. Suresh Babu, he remained unavailable for a comment.
