Key accused Rejaul Karim held in connection with Burdwan blast

JMB operative Rejaul arrested by NIA in Jharkhand
New Delhi/Kolkata: In a major breakthrough, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested Rejaul Karim, another key accused wanted in connection with the Burdwan blast, from Jharkhand on Saturday.
An alleged operative of the banned Jamaat-ul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) terror outfit, Rezaul Karim is belie-ved to be in charge of transporting explosives to various places in Bur-dwan in West Bengal.
Significantly, 39 bombs were recovered by the NSG Black Cats commandos and the NIA team in a joint raid on Rejaul’s rented house at Badshahi Road in Baburbagh after the Burdwan blast.
Acting on a specific tip-off, a three-member NIA team posing as passengers in plain clothes with the help of the Sahebganj police caught him from the Kara-npura police station in Sahebgange district, sources revealed.
After fleeing West Ben-gal, Rejaul, 26, an active member of Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh, had taken shelter in the neighbouring state as the NIA had declared a cash reward of '5 lakh for information leading to his arrest.
He is alleged to be a close associate of Kauser alia Bomaru Mizan and other main accused persons wanted in Burdwan blast case. According to the NIA statement, ‘’After the incident on 2nd October, injured accused Abdul Hakim had called up Rejaul for providing assistance and evacuation.”
“Since the time of incident, he has been absconding to evade arrest,” it said. Originally from Raghunathganj in Murshidabad, Rejaul stayed at his rented house, close to the explosion spot, for months.
NIA is hopeful that his interrogation may throw fresh leads and evidence in the investigation of this case. With his arrest the total number of accused held in the case has become 12. Names of five of them were among the list 12 declared as the wanted by the central agency earlier.
With more than a dozen arrests being made in the Burdwan blast case, the case is fast becoming one of the biggest cross-border terror cases being probed by the NIA. During the day, Rejaul was produced at the Rajmahal sub-divisional court, which granted the NIA a two-day transit remand to produce him at the city sessions court. The Central agency will pray to the court for his custody.
