Departmental secretaries to visit their first posting: Cabinet Secretary

NEW DELHI: The Cabinet secretary directive asking departmental secretaries to visit the districts of their first posting and assess changes and developments in the areas has some objectives.

“The basic thought is that we go back to our roots and see if things have changed for the better or what more is needed to be done to improve the existing situation. We have been told to meet as many people and interact with the ground-level officers, based on which we will send our observations. There is no template given. However, an articulate and coherent report is expected from us,” one of the secretaries said on condition of anonymity.

The officers have to take their spouses along, as their observations will also hold significance. “The spouses can share their views as it has been said categorically that their contribution will be appreciated,” another officer said.

“The report will also carry suggestions on how things can be improved on the ground level. I am sure that the kind of experience that we have will be of help,” another secretary said.
