Brrr! 10 degrees Celsius makes Hyderabad shiver, January to be coldest month
Hyderabad: The city shivered at 10 degrees Celsius, the coldest day so far this season. In its weather forecast for the next three days, Indian Meteorological Department officials said that “cold wave” condition would prevail over all districts of Telangana State and a few in Andhra Pradesh.
The minimum temperature may further drop to 8ºC in Hyderabad with January said to be the coldest month of the season. Northeasterly winds prevailing over Telangana and Andhra Pradesh is responsible for the cold wave. Hyderabad woke up to the coldest day on Saturday with the minimum temperature dipping to 10ºC, five less than normal after December 22, 2014, with 11.2ºC.
M. Narsimha Rao, assistant meteorologist, Indian Meteorological Department, said, “The lowest minimum temperature is recorded just after sunrise every day. This winter the coldest recorded is 10ºC on Jan. 10 after 11.2 the minimum recorded on December 22, 2014.
Presently, dry cold winds from northeasterly northerly direction are prevailing over Andhra Pradesh and Telangana leading to fall in temperatures. On January 9, the minimum recorded was 12.4ºC. However, in 24 hours the temperature dipped to 10. Owing to the cold dry winds the night temperatures are falling leading to development of “cold wave condition”.
