Andhra Pradesh in dilemma over BJP MP’s river villa
Vijayawada: Recently, the state government once again ordered a survey of illegal structures on the flood banks of the Krishna River in the capital region. Just a few days later, MP Gokaraju Ganga Raju hosted BJP national President Amit Shah in his luxurious guest house constructed illegally on the flood bank.
What the government is going to do with such illegal structures built by several prominent personalities, including that of Mr Ganga Raju, is the talk of political circles now.
But belief in continued prominent role of Mr Ganga Raju in the near future has provided hope to many who have flouted the River Conservancy Act to build hundreds of structures, including several multi-storied buildings, guest houses on Krishna flood banks.
Already the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) and Lokayukta have questioned the irregularities, but no action has been taken.
The government, busy implementing the land pooling scheme in villages in the same capital region, has so far done little in this matter.
But recently AP irrigation minister inspected the structures from outside with a media team and ordered the survey.
Now, political circles are having misgivings over whether the government can actually remove the structures for establishing a riverfront capital. Moreover, the issue may create new disputes between the Telugu Desam and the BJP, feels Congress leader Kolanukonda Sivaji.
The state government and irrigation minister Devineni Umamaheshwar Rao should prove that the government could take action against anyone on irregularities as per Act, feels a section of the politicos.
