Tollywood music director Chakri’s wife alleges harassment by in-laws

Hyderabad: The fight between late Tollywood music director Chakri’s wife and her in-laws took a turn for the worse on Saturday, as the former approached the local police alleging harassment and torture. Chakri’s wife, Sravani lodged a complaint with Jubilee Hills police seeking action against her in- laws, who are trying to kick her out of the house.

The police has booked a case against at least six people including Chakri’s mother Vidyavathi and brother Mahith Narayana for criminal intimidation and domestic violence.

According to Sravani’s complaint, they started harassing her soon after Chakri’s death, and trying to get their hands on the fortune left behind by him.

She alleged that they were forcing her to leave the house and hand over the properties to them. She claimed that she had made compromises earlier, however, now the harassment has increased. She said that they were also forcing her to sign some property related documents.

“We have received the complaint on which a case has been registered against the accused people. Section 506 and 498A of IPC have been charged against Chakri’s mother, his brother and others.

The investigation has been launched today, and we are examining the allegations,” said Jubilee Hills inspector S. Venkat Reddy.

A few days after Chakri’s death, Sravani had approached the State Human Rights Commission accusing harassment from her in- laws.

In her complaint, she had claimed that the family had put the blame of Chakri’s untimely death on her and tried to deny her any access to his belongings.

She said that with the death of Chakri, her future is in jeopardy, and she is taking legal help for self protection.

Chakri had reportedly distributed much of his property to charity. But, after his death, his family members tried to get their hands on several gold ornaments possessed by him.
Sources said that the fight turned intense as Sravani asked Chakri’s brother to return the loan given by the music director before his death.

It also came to light that after his death, his parents moved to Chakri’s house located at Nandagiri hills in Jubilee Hills. Chakri died on 15 December 2014, following a heart attack. He had married Sravani in 2004.
