Family of rape victim ousted
Krishnagiri: In a shocking incident, a distraught family of a minor, speech and hearing impaired girl gangraped by four men recently, has been ostracised by a kangaroo court in Keel Kochaoor village of Krishnagiri district in western Tamil Nadu. “The kangaroo court in the Krishnagiri village has asked us to leave the village for exposing the brutal gangrape of my daughter” sobs M. Veerabathrappa, father of the gang-rape victim told DC.
The petrified father has sought police protection from the village headmen who have threatened him with dire consequences if he failed to withdraw the rape complaint against four men of the village, who have been arrested and lodged in jail. “The village headmen have asked even the shopkeeper in the village not to sell groceries to us. What wrong did we do?” Veerabathrappa sighed, sitting forlorn under a tree, with his little son. Following the gangrape, his 11-year-old son, studying Class VI, has also stopped attending school fearing attack from villagers.
On December 25, Veerabathrappa’s 16-year-old speech and hearing impaired daughter was gangraped when she was returning home after delivering food for her father who was working in his farmland. Four youth waylaid the girl and hit her with a wooden log. They dragged her to the girl to an isolated place and raped her by turns when she was in an semi- conscious condition.
