Around 2,300 vehicles used to ferry people to BJP rally in Delhi
New Delhi: BJP went all out on Saturday to ensure a good turnout at its rally here as it deployed 2,300 vehicles to ferry people to the Ramlila Grounds, where it also distributed water bottles bearing Prime Minister Narendra Modi's image among the people.
"As many as 1,600 buses were used to ferry people to Modi-ji's rally while people also came in 700 cars. Besides, hundreds of people also came by bus and Metro to attend the rally," said Delhi BJP general secretary Ramesh Bidhuri.
Also, water bottles bearing the picture of Modi and the slogan, 'Chalo Chale Modi Ke Saath', were handed to the people at the venue.
BJP leaders said that although the crowd was less than what was expected, more than one lakh people had attended the rally on Saturday.
Asked about some chairs remaining empty near the stage, another senior party leader said, "We initially planned to reserve several seats for ladies near the stage. But, later, we also allowed men to sit on these seats."
Hundreds of saffron flags dotted the rally venue with cut- outs of Modi and BJP President Amit Shah also being put up there by the party while loudspeakers played the 'ek bharat, shreshtha bharat' song. One of the BJP flags was mounted on a 50-ft high pole while a 10x15-ft flag was put up near the dais.
Fourteen LCD screens were also installed at the venue to allow people to properly follow the speeches by the BJP leaders. However, some people complained that they could not properly see Modi while he was making his speech.
"There was a shortage of LED screens at the venue due to which we could not properly watch him. BJP should have installed more LED screens," said Suresh Kapoor, who had come from Shalimar Bagh to attend the rally.
Keeping in mind Modi's Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, civic workers were deployed at Ramlila Maidan to collect used water bottles and other waste.
"We deployed several sanitation workers to ensure that the venue was not littered," said a BJP leader.
