Make way for marsala
Marsala, a deep reddish brown colour, declared as the colour of 2015 by Pantone, can do wonders in your homes. This colour, with perfect accents, can be used in various ways in interiors. We speak to city-based interior designers about how you can use this colour in your home.
“Colours like marsala, work as accent colours and not as base colours. They can definitely be used in artworks, tableware, pillow covers or more. Marsala will stand out the best against beige and can be coupled with similar rich colours.
Keep in mind that it won’t go well with dark blues and greens, so avoid that. Use the colour in a way that it enhances the interiors of your home,” says Raajsree Ram, interior designer.
Do remember that the deep colour that it is, marsala will have all the attention in the room, so it goes without saying that you can’t overdo this colour.
“It can be used to colour the highlight wall but not the entire space. Artefacts on your coffee table or cushion covers can be of this colour, with a silver piping enhancing the look.
Another great idea would be to have jute cushions with embroidery or paints of marsala. If you have beige sofas, a carpet of this colour would go well with them. Balance the colour with muted tones of beige and grey,” says interior designer Shipra Chenji.
