Shane to break bond with NZ, join Mumbai Indians

Former speedster-turned-bowling coach says he will not seek extension post WC

Wellington: New Zealand Cricket says Shane Bond will step down as bowling coach of its national team when the World Cup ends in March. The former international paceman's contract ends at the completion of the tournament and he has advised NZC he will not seek an extension. He is all set to join Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Mumbai Indians in the same role as announced on Friday.

Bond has been credited with improving New Zealand's current bowling attack — based around swing bowlers Trent Boult and Tim Southee — into a world-class unit.

NZC head of cricket Lindsay Crocker said: “We're very disappointed to be losing Shane. He's given great value to the Black Caps program and we were hopeful of having the benefit of his input over the next few seasons."

Bond is no stranger to IPL. Having played his trade during 2010 season with KKR, the Kiwi is hopeful to settle quickly in his new role.

Commenting on his upcoming assignment, Bond said: "Its'
my privilege to be associated with the most highly regarded
franchise in IPL. I look forward to bring in my cricketing experience to work along with Ricky (Ponting) and the team."
