Rahul, the new brick in the wall
Bengaluru: A week is a long time in cricket. From an understandably nervous debutant at the MCG a week ago to a confident centurion at Sydney, K.L. Rahul has not only justified his elevation but also made the cricketing world sit up and take notice of the talent that has been marked for great deeds.
Having struggled in the third Test at Melbourne, Karnataka’s newer and younger Rahul, came into his own at the SCG with a determined 262-ball 110 against the Aussies. His father, KN Lokesh, who has been Rahul’s driving force from an early age, says it’s a reflection of his son’s hard work.
The 22-year-old Mangaluru lad’s graph has been on the climb over the past two years and culminated in getting picked for the Oz Test series.
“There was no celebration after he scored a century but we are very happy for him,” said Lokesh, a professor at the National Institute of Technology Karnataka, Surathkal.
At the end of day’s play, Rahul’s parents spoke to him and congratulated him on his maiden century. “I spoke to him soon after the match and congratulated Rahul. He is happy,” he added.
The Lokesh clan isn’t going overboard with celebrations but their son’s journey has come to fruition.
