Five women among 7 new swine flu cases in Hyderabad
Hyderabad: Seven new cases of swine flu were confirmed in the city on Thursday, taking the number of cases to 30 in the first week of January. Of the seven new cases, five are women.
Two of the women are from Miyapur and KPHB Colony.
While the virus is less virulent than it was in 2009, the health officers maintain that the high risk groups, like pregnant women, children below five years of age, senior citizens and also those suffering from chronic illness must take additional care and preventive measures.
Dr K. Subhakar, senior chest physician, said “It is very important for people who have tested positive to seek treatment immediately. When that is done, the virus can be controlled. If neglected, it can lead to multiple complications.”
Every day around 50 samples are being received by the Institute of Preventive Medicine for testing.
