Body found in abandoned suitcase in Thanikachalam Nagar

Police suspect the man to be in his early 50s must have been murdered three days ago

Chennai: Police on Thursday recovered the body of a man stuffed inside an abandoned trolley suitcase in Thanikachalam Nagar near Madhavaram. Passesby informed the Madhavaram police personnel after they noticed foul smell emanating from the trolley near the drainage canal along 80 feet road there.

Police suspect the man to be in his early 50s must have been murdered three days ago. “We have informed all police stations in our district to verify cases of any missing complaint. As of now there has been no such complaint in our jurisdiction in the deceased’s age group,” Madhavaram deputy commissioner S.Vimala said.

Police personnel said that the body which was decomposed beyond recognition was sent to the Government Stanley Hospital for postmortem.

“The deceased was wearing a vest and shorts. The murder may have been over a family dispute” according to an investigating official.

Citing a similar case in the jurisdiction five months ago where a businessman was found dead with hands and limbs tied and the identity remaining unknown for a week, Vimala said that identification of the deceased remains the primary concern as of now.

On the available clues, police said that the man must be a Christian by faith. “He was wearing a silver chain which had Infant Jesus inscribed on it. There was also a ring with the inscription ‘Max’ on it,” the investigating official added. Madhavaram police have registered a case under the Section 302 (murder) of IPC and are investigating.
