Champions Tennis League is good for Indian tennis, says Vijay Amritraj
Chennai: Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic might have taken Indian fans’ breath away when they battled it out in the Delhi leg of the International Premier Tennis League, but the professional league that left a lasting impression at the grassroots level was the Vijay Amritraj-promoted Champions Tennis League. Amritraj had no qualms in saying that Indian tennis benefitted from both leagues.
“Six cities witnessed international tennis. What I really enjoyed was the sight of Indian juniors playing alongside current stars like Feliciano Lopez, Marcus Baghdatis, Mikhail Youzhny and Tommy Robredo in the CTL. Venus was hitting with our junior girls, Hingis coached them and Thomas Enqvist spent time with our players.”Amritraj believes the pro league is the best way forward for improving India’s chances of making it to the World Group in the Davis Cup.
