No reservation for Jain community in Telangana State

Hyderabad: The Jain community was given minority status and included in the AP Minority Commission in April 2014 in undivided AP.

However, the community does not get reservations in educational institutions or state jobs. Community members are not eligible for scholarships on the ground that majority of the Jains are economically strong. The minority status is useful only to set up minority educational institutions.

There are about 2.5 lakh Jains in Telangana and about 3 lakh in AP. Mr A. Gautham Jain, member of the minority commission, said, “Minority welfare schemes are extended to our community, we are unable to get caste certificates. Complaints to the MRO have gone in vain, we have complained to the collector as well.”
