Bombay Stock Exchange shifts to city for two days
Mumbai: The Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) will conduct live trading sessions at its new disaster recovery site at Gachibowli, the financial district of Hyderabad, on Thursday and Friday. Speaking to this newspaper, Mr Ashish Chauhan, MD and CEO of the BSE, said that the present centre at Khoparkhairane in Navi Mumbai was considered too close to Mumbai in the case of any disaster, so it was decided to shift the site to a new city that is far from Mumbai. It has invested Rs50 crore on the centre.
The exchange has asked brokers to move their data to the Hyderabad disaster recovery centre by Wednesday night. Equity derivatives and equity segment live trading session timing would be from 9.15 am to 3.30 pm. Mr Chauhan said that the Andhra Pradesh government had offered two acres of land to BSE eight years ago when it was creating the IT hub. The BSE has built the disaster recovery centre consisting of ground plus three structure with a total of 68,000 square feet, he said.
The BSE has for the last four weeks been conducting mock trading at the site on week ends but will now do live trading for two days every quarter. Mr Chauhan said that after the back-up site stabilises they will close the Navi Mumbai site.
