PMK exit won’t affect BJP’s poll prospect: Pon Radhakrishnan
Chennai: Apparently expressing his resentment over PMK founder Dr S. Ramadoss’ outbursts over the functioning of the Narendra Modi government, BJP senior and Union minister for road transport, highways and shipping Pon Radhakrishnan has said that party’s exit from the NDA will not affect the poll prospects of the BJP. “We don’t want our allies to walk out of our alliance. We expect them to remain united. But if the PMK walks out of the NDA it will not be a setback to the BJP,” he said when reporters on Tuesday sought his reaction on the Vanniyar-dominated party leaders’ criticism of Mr Modi and also his decision to announce a chief ministerial candidate from his party.
Only on Sunday, BJP state president Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan cautioned Dr S. Ramadoss from going overboard in criticising the Prime Minister and reminded him that his son and former union minister Dr. Anbumani had become a MP due to BJP’s support. Pointing out that alliances were made to last for a longer period and that none would wish for a split, the minister said if any ally quits the BJP-led NDA, it would definitely be a loss for the combine but as far as the BJP was concerned PMK’s exit would not affect the prospects of the BJP at the hustings.
“PMK exit from our alliance will not be a loss to our party,” Mr. Radhakrishnan added. It may be recalled former ally Vaiko, MDMK chief, parted ways with the NDA after vehemently flaying Mr. Modi. He however did not receive a cordial reception from the state leaders who retaliated warning him to “rein in his tongue.” Meanwhile, the BJP has claimed that the government has “let down” the farmers in not providing enhanced support price for sugarcane and jaggery. With Pongal round the corner the government should announce the enhanced support price and help farmers benefit, said Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan.
