Rivals ask Shashi Tharoor to resign from Lok Sabha
New Delhi: Former Union minister Shashi Tharoor following the sudden twist in the death of his Sunanda Pushkar said in a statement: “I am anxious to see this case is investigated thoroughly and continue to assure the police of my full cooperation.”
Tuesday’s development has come in the backdrop of several twists and turns in the case, ranging from controversial autopsy and viscera reports to an alleged lackadaisical approach by the police.
While the Congress said it was not clear from police’s comments if Pushkar had killed herself or was murdered, both the BJP and CPM in Kerala demanded that Mr Tharoor quit the Lok Sabha. Sunanda Pushkar’s brother Ashish Dass said: “I am totally in shock. We were not expecting this at all. The whole family is devastated. We want the police to go into detail, and find out the truth.”
Addressing the media earlier on Tuesday, the Delhi police commissioner said: “The conclusions made in a medical report submitted by the AIIMS medical board on December 29 confirmed that Sunanda Pushkar was poisoned, on whose basis a case of murder has been registered.”
He went on: “Sunanda Pushkar died of poisoning which was either given to her orally or injected inside her body.” “We are doing the needful and the inquiry is on. The AIIMS medical board report stated that the death was unnatural. Whether the poison was given orally or injected into her body is being investigated,” Mr Bassi said.
