Jayalalithaa case: Karnataka High Court wants documents translated
BENGALURU: The Special Bench of the Karnataka High Court hearing the criminal appeals of AIADMK chief J. Jayalalithaa and three others convicted in a disproportionate assets case, on Tuesday directed the Director of Translation to translate the Tamil version of charge and plea to English language, and furnish the translated version to the court on or before January 13.
Justice C.R. Kumaraswamy passed the orders after directing the High Court Registry to send a copy of the charge and plea to the Director of Translation, located in Multistoreyed Building.
Meanwhile, senior advocate B. Kumar while arguing on behalf of Jayalalithaa submitted arguments regarding the statement of expenditure incurred by Jayalalithaa and also on the point pertaining to charge while stating that prosecution has inflated the value of luxurious properties, jewellery and money spent on her estranged foster son V.N. Sudhakaran’s marriage ceremony.
Meanwhile, DMK General Secretary K. Anbazhagan on Tuesday filed a petition, seeking removal of Special Public Prosecutor (SPP) Bhavani Singh in the disproportionate assets case against former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa and three others, alleging he was sailing with the accused.
The advocate representing Anbazhagan sought court’s attention over replacing the present SPP with another prosecutor as he has not been presenting the facts relating to the case properly. The case has been adjourned to Wednesday.
