It’s tough staying in Top 4: Stanislas Wawrinka
Stanislas Wawrinka is the toast of Chennai
Chennai: Stanislas Wawrinka is the toast of Chennai. Not only is the Swiss the reigning king here, but also, he is the defending Australian Open champion. The Swiss is in Chennai for the seventh straight year and he owns a 15-4 record in South Asia’s only ATP event. Excerpts:
On the new season: It is a fresh start for all the players. I am sure it will be a tough season and I will give it my best shot. I am excited to start again in Chennai and I hope to replicate my success.
On comparisons with Federer: I am used to playing in the way I can. I have had an amazing career so far and I am happy with the way the previous season panned out. I achieved big milestones and won tournaments. The comparison doesn’t matter.
On defending his Australian Open title: It is all about staying focused. I want to win some matches in Chennai and take the confidence forward into the Australian Open.
On consolidating a top four spot: It will be difficult to stay there given the competition but I am not writing off my chances. It is a new season and I have every opportunity to be better than the last season.
