Shortage of IPS staff in Telangana State
Hyderabad: The Telangana police is running short of IPS officers and it is now planning to ask the Centre for an increase in their allotment. Out of the 92 IPS officers in Telangana eight are already on Central deputation. Hyderabad and Cyberabad commissionarates alone need around 25 IPS officers.
Apart from the two commissionarates, around 18 senior IPS officers are placed at the TS police headquarters in Hyderabad and the remaining need to be divided among districts and other departments.
Senior officials are worried as they need IPS officers in specialised wings like intelligence, elite forces, CID, ranges and districts.
Several IPS officers are on deputation to Central services. The services of DGP-rank officers Navneet Rajan Wasan of the 1980 batch, who worked for the CBI and NIA, and K. Durga Prasad of 1981 batch was removed as the SPG director are available.
IPS officers Vinayak P. Apte of the 1994 batch, Shika Goel of the 1994 batch, Ritu Mishra (1996), Devendra Singh Chowhan (1997), Akun Sabharwal (2001) and additional DGP Umesh Sharaf have opted for the Central deputation at the NPA for the next four years.
Due to the shortage of IPS officials in TS each senior officer is now handling two to three departments. Senior officials after assessing requirement may soon ask the Centre for more IPS officials.
