BJP may set aside J&K tricky issues

BJP hinted that certain controversial issues could be set aside

New Delhi/Srinagar: Amidst speculation that options of government formation, including power-sharing issues, were discussed between the PDP and the BJP, constituting a coordination committee in the state headed by PDP patron Mufti Muhammad Sayeed and Chief Minister from the BJP were also discussed.

On Monday, the BJP said the PDP has shown some “initiative” in joining hands with it and hinted that certain controversial issues could be set aside.

Sources disclosed the PDP leadership was assured by the BJP that all major decisions in the state would be taken by the CM as well as the coordination committee chairperson. However, the PDP is still insisting on the chief ministerial post, with the BJP claiming that it will play an important role in government formation.

After the meeting of BJP president Amit Shah and the party’s senior leaders from Jammu and Kashmir on Monday, the party indicated that a committee of some senior leaders is likely to be constituted to hold further talks with the PDP leadership and work out a common programme for good governance.

Sources disclosed the J&K leaders discussed issues, including the post of chief minister and the party’s stand on Article 370 and AFSPA in case the BJP goes along with the PDP in the state.

Union minister Arun Jaitley, in an interview to a news channel on the issue, said the task is a “much larger battle” between democratic parties and the Indian state versus separatists.
