Andhra Pradesh police watch on capital land
Hyderabad: Farmers claim that the AP government is now resorting to intimidating them for pooling land for the capital city.
Thousands of state Armed Reserve Police have been deployed in the capital villages after the fire incidents in which farms of farmers who were unwilling to give up their lands were burnt.
Over 26 farmers have been taken into custody for interrogation without any concrete charges.
Admitting the increase in police force, P.H.D. Ramakrishna, SP of Guntur (Rural) said, “Yes, we have strengthened the forces after the fire incident.
Moreover, it has become a VIP zone.” Condemning the situation, former IAS officer M.G. Devasahayam said, a situation of fear has descended, when the farmers are even afraid to go out to their farms. It is the violation of laws.”
