Police implement safe colony plan in Hyderabad
Hyderabad: Taking the Safe City concept further, the West Zone police has come up with a Safe Colony plan, involving increasing security and constantly monitoring colonies through patrolling and intensive checks.
The police would keep a strict vigil on people entering and leaving the colonies.
“The entry and exit points will be blocked from late night hours till the morning. One or two lanes or routes will be kept open to have a check on people coming inside the colonies. This is to keep away criminals,” said Mr A. Venkateshwara Rao, DCP, West Zone.
Under this plan, there will be constant patrolling in places like schools, colleges and bus stops, etc. to prevent crimes like eve-teasing. Officials said residents’ opinions will be sought on safety measures and contact numbers of the residents will be stored in local police stations.
“Colony residents will be contacted regularly by police to discuss problems they come across and to exchange views. Their suggestions will be accepted on implementing methods to prevent offences in the area,” he said.
The police has identified Umanagar, Kundanbagh, Begumpet, and Methodist Colony in Panjagutta division, Nandinagar Colony in Banjara Hills, Gyan Bagh Colony in Shahinaythgunj area and Shivabagh in Tappachabutra for the safe colony plan.
