Mysore silk to go high fashion, get makeover
Mysuru: Karnataka Silk Industries Corporation intends to give the famed Mysuru silk sarees a designer touch by involving well known fashion designers in the production process.
In spite of stiff competition from new products, Mysuru silk sarees, known for their purity and lightweight elegance have stood their own in the market and remain a woman’s favorite. The designers KSIC has invited include Latha Puttanna, Deepika Govind, Ila Dulipala.
The KSIC has reaped the benefits seeing its turnover rise to Rs 100 crore from April-December, 2014.
In the previous financial year, it had achieved Rs 127 crore turnover and profit of Rs 21.8 crore, says KSIC chairperson, D. Basavaraj. Impressed by the designs, Ms Salma Ansari, wife of Vice President Hamid Ansari will be visiting the silver jubilee showroom of KSIC at Bengaluru on Monday to purchase Mysuru silk sarees, Mr Basavaraju said.
The KSIC is also gearing up to gift a special silk valli to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and specially designed silk saree to Foreign Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj when they participate in the International Tourism Festival to be held at Ahmedabad, Gujarat as part of Bharatiya Pravasi Divas on January 8.
