Ahead of polls, Pervez Musharraf may launch United Muslim League
Mr Musharraf's APML had boycotted the elections as he was barred from contesting
Islamabad: Former Pakistan military ruler Pervez Musharraf is set to launch a new political party, the United Muslim League (UML), as he prepares for the next general elections.
In 2013, Mr Musharraf's All Pakistan Muslim League (APML) had boycotted the elections as he was barred from contesting.
“Mr Musharraf is meeting leaders of various PML factions and is expected to form UML to contest the next elections (scheduled for 2018),” said a senior APML leader.
APML Secretary-General Mohammed Amjed claimed that many stalwarts of the Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) and Pakistan People's Party have met Mr Musharraf.
“These leaders think that he has the leadership qualities and charisma to bring the country out of crisis,” he said.
