Guard robbed, pushed out of suburban train in Chennai

Guard was travelling to his residence in Annanoor when the incident took place

Chennai: Hardly a week after a lady software professional was pushed out by an unidentified man from a moving EMU in the city in the course of a robbery, a railway guard, who was returning home from duty, was assaulted and robbed in a moving electric train between Kodambakkam and Nungambakkam stations on Saturday night.

The incident happened just after midnight when three youths wearing monkey caps jumped into the first class compartment of the moving train that left the Kodambakkam railway station at around 12.20 am.

The three allegedly assaulted Rakesh Bharathi, 40,the guard who was traveling in the first class compartment and inflicted knife injuries on his body before snatching his wallet containing Rs15,000. The guard was travelling to his residence in Annanoor when the incident took place.
