Mamata Banerjee takes full control of Trinamul Congress
KOLKATA: Mamata Banerjee has decided to take full control of the Trinamul Congress party organisation in her own hands.
She made this announcement at an extended core committee meeting at her Kalighat residence on Saturday afternoon.
“Since 2011, due to the pressures of governing the state as chief minister, I have been neglecting the party.
But now I will devote more time to look after the party organisation,” a party MLA who attended the meeting quoted her as saying. Nearly 70 party leaders were present.
However, the second most important person in the party, general secretary Mukul Roy, was conspicuous by his absence.
Ms Banerjee also asked party leaders to prepare a list of Opposition leaders who were allegedly involved in any chit fund company.
“Her instruction was clear: we must expose those Opposition leaders who are vilifying us but whose names have also figured in connection with some Ponzi schemes,” the MLA said.
Ms Banerjee’s statement assumed even more significance because of Mr Roy’s absence. He is the man who has been virtually single-handedly running the party organisation for a long time. But he is also under the CBI scanner for alleged involvement in the Saradha chit fund scam.
