Krishnapatnam port on high alert

The marine police has stepped up security in all the coastal villages

Nellore: In the wake of a Pakistani fishing boat sneaking into the Indian waters near Gujarat, the officials have beefed up security at the Krishnapatnam Port following an alert by the Coast Guard.

The civil police, the Coast Guard and the marine police have stepped up security measures and are observing the movements of the ships in the sea coming from Vizag and Chennai.

Coast Guard ships are keeping vigil from Chennai to Vizag and watching the movements of the vessels in the sea. The marine police personnel have asked the locals to alert them if they spot any strangers in the coastal villages.

Sources said that the port has no armed security. If needed, the Coast Guard personnel will have to come from Vizag and Chennai.

Meanwhile, a commercial ship is coming from Pakistan to Krishnapatnam on January 12. The officials will take precautionary measures to avoid any untoward incident and increase security.

Officials said, “Following high alert at all the ports, the Coast Guard and ma-rine police have step-ped up security in the sea and ports.

The marine police stepped up security in the coastal villages from Vizag to Nellore and pressed more vessels in sea to observe movements of the fishing boats.

They have established contact with the villagers and are trying to identify the movements of the strangers. Marine CI K. Suresh Kumar Reddy said “We have stepped up security in the coastal mandals following high alert in the wake of Gujarat incident and reviewed the arrangements.”
