DMK treasurer MK Stalin rubbishes reports of his resignation from party
Chennai: DMK treasurer and son of party president M Karunanidhi has rejected alleged rumours of him giving up his post. Stalin tweeted, “The news of my resignation are mere rumours. The DMK will remain strong and united.”
According to reports, Stalin’s supported wanted him to takeover as the party’s president. Speculation is rife that Stalin’s supporters have been demanding his to take a ‘larger’ role in the party.
Earlier, in May 2014 Stalin had offered to give up his party post following the DMK’s poll debacle in the general elections.
One of India’s oldest parties, DMK witnessed an ugly fight in the run up to the Lok Sabha election after the dismissal of Stalin’s elder brother MK Alagiri.
"I condemn this strongly and deny such reports completely. Somebody has spread such rumours with malicious intent. I would like to state categorically that this has been done deliberately to create confusion among party ranks," he added.
He was referring to reports that he had offered to quit as DMK treasurer as his father and party chief M Karunanidhi did not allow him to contest for the post of General Secretary.
DMK is in the last phase of concluding its organisational polls. Elections for the top posts of party president, General Secretary, treasurer and audit members will be held on January 9.
Stalin said that nomination papers for contesting the post of party treasurer would be filed on January 7. "The truth is that our leader Karunanidhi and K Anbazhagan (former Finance Minister) will file papers for the posts of party president and General Secretary," he said.
The news of my resignation are mere rumors. The DMK will remain strong and united.
