Techie opens fire to scare away robbers

The four robbers came up to him and picked up a quarrel

Bengaluru: A techie was robbed of his watch and gold chain by four men in Amarjyothi Layout under the Airport police station limits in South East Bengaluru on Friday night. The victim’s friend, who arrived at the spot with his licensed revolver, opened fire in the air and scared away the robbers.

The victim, Anish Kumar, who works as a software engineer at an IT company in Koramangala, has stated in his police complaint that the four men picked up a quarrel with him, while he was waiting for an autorickshaw on the Domlur Intermediate Ring Road around 1.15 am.

He was heading home in BTM Layout after a party at his friend and colleague Rajiv Raman’s house nearby.

Anish has stated in the complaint that he was waiting for the autorickshaw as he did not want to ride or drive back home as he was drunk.

The four robbers came up to him and picked up a quarrel. But it is not clear from the complaint how and why the quarrel started between Anish and the four robbers, the police said.

As he was arguing with the four men, Anish managed to make a phone call to Rajiv, who arrived at the spot with his licensed revolver.

Rajiv opened one round in the air, and the four robbers ran away from the spot, but not before robbing the watch and the gold chain, weighing 30 gm, the complaint stated.

The police said that the preliminary investigation revealed that neither Anish nor Rajiv remembered the make or the registration number of the vehicle, in which the four robbers fled from the spot.

The police are also investigating the reason behind the quarrel between Anish and the four miscreants, said an investigating officer.

“We are trying to investigate whether the shot was fired in the air or was pointed at the robbers,” a senior police officer said. “We have taken up a case of robbery and are investigating.”
