Bridging the gap between farmers and retailers
Kasi Komma’s venture brings farmers and retailers on one platform, eliminating middlemen
Hyderabad: As a son of a farmer, Kasi Komma has been witness to all the troubles “the backbone of our country” faces. And to prove the critics of the country’s youth for their apathy towards the plight of the farming community wrong, this youngster took up the task of creating a win-win situation for farmers and retailers, minus the middlemen.
“I was born and grew up in a village in the state of Andhra Pradesh and did my schooling there. I gained my experience in information systems over the past nine years and was very interested in building transformational information systems, especially in India, to change the way people buy and sell their products or services and save time for them so they could spend it with their family,” says Kasi, who pursued his bachelors in mechanical engineering from Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University.
And the vision materialised into the website, aapmarketplace.com, an aggregator of retailers and wholesale buyers, who buy vegetables, fruits, pulses, cotton, paddy and chilies from farmers.
“As a son of a farmer, I have seen and experienced the problems that farm producers and buyers face the lack of farm produce supply, demand and market price data to buy, sell or hold farm produce. With my love for farmers, along with my obsession with the transformational information systems and as a deterministic capitalist, I found www.aapmarketplace.com,” adds Kasi.
On the website, you can choose to buy vegetables for your shop if you are a retailer. The website will register you for the produce, or you can even receive leads on the produce you need... such as tomatoes for instance. The website enables retailers to also expand their business and profits owing to the pricing. If you are a farmer, you can sell your produce directly to retailers, you can also pick and choose from the buyers available to be able to get the best price.
“Basically, the website connects farm produce buyers with farmers near and far. It creates a win-win situation for both farmers and buyers to get the best price and grow their businesses. We are building buyer database to sell farm produce leads from farmers.
We charge the buyers per lead for an amount less than or equal to per month package selected by the buyer,” adds Kasi. While the website is now up and running, the founder already has plans for the future, starting with marketing. “We are planning to market our services to get retailers and wholesale farm produce buyers on-board. We will also reach out to farmers to speak about us and the best prices provided by our buyers. We are planning to reach farm produce buyers through print, social network and digital mediums,” he says.
In conclusion, Kasi says: “AAP Market-place provides an opportunity to producers to get the best price by presenting them with the set of buyers who offer competitive prices.”
