Big retail firms meet both CMs

Mr Rao said the firms must implement labour laws and employ people in two-shifts

Hyderabad: Representatives from major retailing firms like Lifestyle, Walmart, Shoppers Stop, Big Bazaar, Reliance etc. met with the Chief Ministers of both Telangana state and Andhra Pradesh on Friday.

During their meeting with TS Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, the representatives urged him to devise a system to simplify the approval process for setting up retail malls and stores in the state.

Mr Rao assured them that the government will soon come out with a new ‘Retailing Policy’ wherein the approval process will be simplified.

The retailers also sought approval to function 365 days a year and during night hours without seeking special permission every time for each and every store.

Mr Rao said that though the government has no objection to this, the firms must implement labour laws and employ people in two-shifts.

Even Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu offered to ease the norms and provide single window clearances for retailers to open new outlets.

The CM asked the retailers to take up quality control tests and labelling of products manufactured by women members of DWCRA.
