OnePlus One handset users also need to install TWRP recovery before downloading the build

OnePlus, one of the latest smartphone brand, has announced the release of Android Lollipop Alpha ROM. The tech giant has stated the Android Lollipop Alpha is the first ROM by OnePlus and its flash version is available on the official site.

Before installing the Android Lollipop Alpha on your OnePlus handset, don’t forget to backup your phone data. OnePlus One handset users also need to install TWRP recovery and GApps package will help you to access Google services.

To help you backup your data on your OnePlus One device and download the new Android Lollipop Alpha successfully, here is a step-by-step guide:

  • Download Oneplus_community.zip and copy the file on your handset. You can also use Android File Transfer on a Mac. If you have TWRP installed, place the folder in the zip.
  • Boot into TWRP recovery. You can do this on your OPO by holding both the volume down and power buttons.
  • Once you are in the recovery interface, switch to the Wipe mode and do a factory reset to clean your data, cache, and Dalvik.
  • After the wipe, go to install and find the zip you copied to your device and confirm flash. This should flash the ROM to your device.
  • Once the flash is complete, clear your cache again.

OnePlus is trying to make several improvements and customize the core functionalities of its updates. However, the Android Lollipop Alpha reportedly welcomes several technical bugs easily, which have been listed down:

  • Data roaming is on by default. Make sure to turn if off to avoid potential charges.
  • Flashing a custom ROM incurs the risk of bricking your phone.
  • Even though the build supports 4k video, its quality may be low as we are still fine-tuning the camera.
  • Capacitive keys do not turn off when you enable software keys.
  • Clock crashes periodically.
  • On first boot, startup time will be a bit slow.
  • Unstable Wi-Fi.
  • This build is not eligible for OTA updates.
