Pay extra for zero benefits in Telangana
Hyderabad: At present, there is power shortage of 3-4 million units a day in Telangana and with the onset of the Rabi season, the agricultural demand will go up thereby increasing the shortage up to 16 million units a day. In a way, it would be paying extra for zero benefit.
Adding to the woes would be the searing heat. “Even now the weather has warmed up and night temperatures in January have reached 20ºC . In all probability, the day temperatures would cross 45ºC by mid-summer this year and if the onset of monsoon is delayed, people will struggle to cope with the heat,” the official said.
The government of AP recently directed the APGENCO to import 3.6 million tonnes of coal, both from within the country and abroad, to keep reserves for its thermal power stations to maintain round-the-clock supply of power for both domestic and industrial consumers.
Telangana, which aims to generate 6000 MW of power, is eyeing Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and NTPC. The deficit of both Telangana and AP has gone beyond Rs 7,500 crore each.
