BENGALURU: The city police have come up with several plans to revive and strengthen the crime investigation team in all police stations in the city. As part of the plan each and every member will be interviewed by senior officers before being inducted into the crime team.
According to senior officials, the plan is to make the crime teams a blend of experienced and young policemen.
“There will be a crime team for investigating crime cases in every police station. In some stations, there are experienced cops, but they lack technological knowledge.
If some young tech-savvy cops are there they could exploit technology to crack cases. Before they are in the crime team, we need to understand their psyche and bring attitudinal change in them to perform better,” the officer said.
The top brass are planning to post cops who know more languages, as it will help them in establishing good rapport with their sources and in gathering intelligence.
“For example, there is a sizeable population of Muslims and Tamils in East Bengaluru. The cops in that division have to know Urdu and Tamil if they have to connect well with their sources and pull out credible information. They will be selected based on various factors through the interview,” the officer explained.
Further, the police are also ready with 30 chapters which will help the crime staff in gathering intelligence about criminals and detection of crime. The chapters also throws light on nurturing their sources and they are written by retired police officers, the officer added.
The cops who are interested to be a part of crime team are directed by senior officers to give an application.
The jurisdictional DCP will conduct an interview and shortlist them before the Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) P. Harisekaran interviews them and decides whether they should be a part of crime team.
When contacted, Mr Harisekaran told DC that the process of interviewing was on. “We have finalised a list of policemen. They will be interviewed and put in the crime investigation team if they qualify.
There will be a set of questions to understand their ability and interest in the interview. This is first time in the city to conduct interview to the crime staff.
We will pick those who have an idea of socio-economic fabric of the society, so that they could help in prevention and detection of crime,” Mr Harisekaran added.
