2 killed in mishaps during New Year celebrations
Hyderabad: Two people, including a Class 10 student, were killed and three others were injured in accidents on New Year eve in different parts of the city. The police booked around 800 drunk driving cases. Meanwhile, tension gripped Image Garden in Madhapur as a group clashed with the organisers for not providing enough liquor.
Another scuffle broke out between bouncers and the bodyguard of actor-politician Jayaprada’s relative in Novotel. Senior police officials said the celebrations were comparatively peaceful in the city except for small incidents.
In the first accident that occurred near RTC cross roads, a BPO employee, rammed into a road divider with his bike. He suffered multiple injuries and died on the spot. The police is yet to confirm if he was drunk while driving. The victim was identified as B. Ramkumar, 27, a resident of Kothapet. In the second accident, a Class 10 student, A. Suman, 15, son of Venkatesh, was critically injured after the bike on which he was travelling as a pillion rider skidded at Jubilee Hills check post. He later succumbed in hospital. His brother, A. Balakrishna, sustained injuries.
At Image Garden, trouble broke out as revelers broke bottles and furniture as they did not get what they paid for. “Many had paid for booze and partying. However, very few got it. The rest ransacked the venue. We have booked a case against the organiser,” said a police officer from Madhapur police station.
At Novotel, a bodyguard of Jayaprada’s relative Raj Thakur, picked up a fight with bouncers after getting drunk. Police booked a case against the man, Gangadhar Reddy.
Cyberabad witnessed death-free new year celebrations this year. Cyberabad police commissioner C.V. Anand and Hyderabad police commissioner Mahender Reddy celebrated their New Year near Cyber Tower and Charminar respectively.
