Smartphone app: Be a Hawk Eye for Hyderabad police
Hyderabad: The city police on Wednesday launched a mobile app, Hawk Eye-Hyd City Police, to “empower public to become citizen police”. The app, however, contains several apps within and there are issues with using it.
The app has a feature for women’s safety while travelling, an SOS button for use in emergencies, a facility to report crimes and traffic violations to the police among others. Users can also register details of domestic househelps and tenants.
However, there are glitches. This reporters downloaded the SOS button and used it but found that SMSes were not sent to friends in the list, as promised. Nor did the cops react for half-an-hour. There were issues even during installation.
Asked about it, IT cell inspector Srinath Reddy said that the streamlining process may take few more days. Officials said the performance of the app will depend on the phones that one uses.
This newspaper found the following issues: While downloading the app, the phone said: “Installation blocked — for security reasons your device is set to block installation for not obta-ining from Google Play.”
