Mamata Banerjee debuts on Twitter, wishes people on New Year
Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday debuted on micro-blogging site Twitter and greeted the people on New year.
Her very first tweet from '@MamataOfficial' read: "A New Year. A new beginning for me on Twitter".
"Mamata Banerjee has always been comfortable addressing large gatherings and comfortable in communicating with people from all walks of life. She already has a presence on Facebook and in a short span she already has ten lakh 'likes'. Now with an entry into Twitter this great communicator has found another media to share her message," TMC spokesperson and MP Derek O'Brien told PTI.
Incidentally, Thursday is also the 16th Foundation Day of the All India Trinamool Congress. Within an hour of joining the social networking site, she notched up 1,000 followers.
Her second tweet was, "We are committed to work for the development of the people. We look forward to your help and cooperation. Happy New Year to you all".
On Facebook, she said, "Today is the Foundation Day of All India Trinamool Congress. We are 16+ now. My heartiest greetings and best wishes to 'Maa, Maati, Manush' and all the well-wishers for their blessings, support and encouragement".
