Bengaluru hospital’s healthy heart for Pakistani infant

Now the child has recovered fully and the parents celebrated his first birthday in the hospital

Bengaluru: “We do not have words to express our thanks to the doctors here for taking care of Hamdaan and special thanks to them for providing such a safe and loving environment,” is what the elated mother had to say about her one year old son Hamdaan who underwent an Open Heart Surgery in the city at Jayadeva Hospital.

Pediatricians and Cardiologists had examined him in many hospitals at Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad and they recommended an early open heart surgery.

The family of one-year-old Mohammed Hamdaan (the mother and aunt) had to travel all the way from Karachi to Jayadeva Hospital as pediatric heart surgery being rare, are not done at most of the centres in Pakistan.

Speaking about the surgery which was done on little Hamdaan, Dr C N Manjunath, Director, Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research says, “he was suffering from Large Heart Defect since birth called Ventricular Septal Defect, further adding, “since our patient was an infant, the life risk was there but more importantly the baby had a large severe pulmonary arterial hypertension and also left to right shunts along with high pulmonary artery pressure, meaning that the child had high blood volume and pressure in the pulmonary circulation.”

“Now the child has recovered fully and the parents celebrated his first birthday in the hospital. We discharged him on Wednesday,” said Dr Manjunath.
