Indian soldier killed in ceasefire violation by Pakistan in Jammu and Kashmir
New Delhi: An Indian soldier was killed in ceasefire violation by Pakistan at the international border in Jammu and Kashmir’s Samba sector.
One BSF jawan has been injured and another wounded, so far, reports received here said. A heavy exchange of small arms fire is underway between Indian and Pakistan border guards currently.
BSF officials in Jammu confirmed it saying that the Pakistan’s Chenab Rangers started targeting Indian border outposts (BoPs) along the IB, called working boundary by Islamabad, without any provocation early Wednesday, killing and injuring its personnel. The fire was returned and the intermittent exchange of small and automatic weapons was underway as reports last came in,” they said adding “there has been no provocation from our side”. There has been no word on the Indian allegation from the Pakistani side, so far.
Past week, the facing troops had exchanged small arms fire, at least, half a dozen times along the IB in Pallanwalla, Arnia and Hiranagar sectors and on the Line of Control (LoC) though without causing any casualties.

The BSF and Army had accused the Pakistani Rangers of initiating the firing and said that each time the Pakistani firing evoked 'comparable' response from their jawans.”
According to them, on Sunday Pakistani Rangers violated ceasefire at Maljodha in Pargwal area of Akhnoor along the IB. Earlier on December 26, the Pakistani troops had opened fire on Vikraman post along the IB in Arnia area of Jammu which continued through 1.30 am on December 27. On another occasion, Pakistani troops' target was Jabowal post in Hiranagar sector of the neighbouring Kathua district.
On December 25, Pakistani Rangers had resorted to unprovoked small arms firing in forward areas in Pansar border out post (BoP) belt of Hiranagar. A day earlier, mortars were fired by them towards the Pansar BoP, also in Hiranagar sector, but again without causing injury to anyone.
“Each Pakistani violation of November 2003 ceasefire agreement was effectively retaliated to by the BSF jawans,” a BSF spokesperson had said.
Also, Pakistani troops allegedly opened firing at four places in Pallanwalla sector of Akhnoor tehsil along the Line of Control (LoC). Army official had said that the Pakistan troops targeted forward areas of Nathu, Kulian, Sangam and Gigrial in Laukikhan battalion area of Pallanwalla sector at 5.20 pm on December 29 without causing any casualties.
