Hyderabad: CRPF constable tries to rape teen
Hyderabad: A CRPF constable allegedly attempted to rape a 14-year-old girl after sneaking into her house on the CRPF campus at Chandrayangutta.
The victim, the daughter of a CRPF sub-inspector, raised an alarm and managed to get help. The alleged assaulter, identified as Mukesh, was chased and caught by other officials on the campus.
At the time of the incident, the teenaged girl was alone at home as her family members were attending an Ayyappa pooja in the neighbourhood. In fact, the girl too was at the pooja, but had returned home to pick up a sweatshirt as it was chilly outside.
“Mukesh saw the girl going home alone and followed her. He then sneaked into the house after her,” said Chandrayangutta police inspector N. Rama Rao.
According to a complaint lodged by the victim’s family, the accused entered the victim’s room and tried to overpower her. Meanwhile, the girl’s mother got anxious as her daughter had not returned to the pooja venue. She too went home to check on the girl.
“She heard the girl shouting for help and rushed to her aid. Other CRPF officials also rushed to help them. They found Mukesh in the house with the victim,” said the inspector.
Mukesh tried to flee but was chased and caught by others. The incident occurred on the night of December 27. Though the family members were initially reluctant to report the case, they later came forward. “As soon as we got the complaint, we arrested Mukesh and remanded him to custody,” said the inspector.
A case of molestation and illegal trespass, among other serious charges, has been booked against him. Mukesh, is a CRPF constable from Rajasthan, who came to the Hyderabad campus for training two months ago. He is married and has a child in his native place, police said.
