Changes in law to boost manufacturing: Centre
Ready to change to successfully implement the Make-in-India campaign
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi said Monday that the government machinery had “geared up” in the past three months and was now “ready to change” to successfully implement the Make-in-India campaign.
“If we have to change laws, we are ready. If we have to change rules, we are ready. If we have to change the system, we are ready,” the PM said while addressing the national workshop on “Make-in-India”.
Mr Modi said his government was adding a new paradigm to the PPP model, by involving all stakeholders in key decision-making processes. The government, he said, was generally trapped in an ABCD culture from top to bottom... A means Avoid, B-Bypass, C-Confuse, D-Delay. Our efforts is to move from this to ‘ROAD’ where R is Responsibility, O-Ownership, A-Accountability, D-Discipline.
Finance minister Arun Jaitley earlier pledged to remove the “entry barriers to business” and ensure a competitive tax structure. “The entry point into the manufacturing sector itself has to be eased. Our initial barriers have to be lowered and perhaps even removed,” he said.
On high interest rate regime, he said, “In recent times, this is one singular factor which has contributed to the slowdown in manufacturing growth”.
