BJP may soon call for a Hindu state, says APCC president
Vijayawada: The ruling BJP, which has been clamouring for a “Congress-less India” may soon give a call for Hindu state, said APCC president N. Raghuveera Reddy on Sunday.
Speaking at the 129th foundation day celebrations of the Congress held at the Andhra Ratna Bhavan here, Mr Reddy alleged that the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre has been spewing religious venom and spreading fear across the country.
He said that with the wrong intention of nullifying the sacrifices and efforts of the Congress, the BJP was trying to glorify forces like Godse.
The APCC chief expressed confidence that with the people’s support, the Congress, which believes in secularism, will foil the attempts of the ruling party to divide society on the lines of religion and caste.
Mr Reddy said that the Congress will strike back within no time, both at the state and at the Centre. He thanked the party cadre for their unconditional bonding and support to the party, saying that it was only due to this factor that the party has survived many crises like the present one.
Former Union minister Killi Kruparani reminded the significance the Congress has been giving to all religions and castes right since its inception.
She spoke on the services of the scores of party leaders and cadre, right from Mahatma Gandhi to Sonia Gandhi. Ms Kruparani highlighted the sacrifices of Gandhiji, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi to protect the integrity of the nation. She said that the Congress that developed the country on all fronts, will definitely regain its prominence very soon.
Former minister Devineni Rajasekhar criticised the state government, alleging that it has failed on all fronts.
He said that within six months, the internal bickering and rift in the TD has begun to surface and this trend will gain momentum in the coming months.
Former MLA Malladi Vishnu, DCC chief N. Narasimha Rao, City Congress president Meesala Rajeswara Rao, party leaders Devineni Avinash, Kadiyala Buchhibabu, M.J. Ratna Kumar, Salim Pervez and others also spoke.
