Madigas community to be categorised in Telangana State

Rajaiah said that the struggles of the oppressed community would end shortly

Karimnagar: Deputy Chief Minister Dr T. Rajaiah said that the Madiga community would be classified into new categories soon. He was addressing a gathering at a function organised by Madiga Dandora to felicitate him and other public representatives on Sunday.

Mr. Rajaiah said that the struggles of the oppressed community would end shortly with the classification of the community into A, B, C and D categories based on the population of its sub-castes. This would enable the weaker section to grow with the help of reservations in employment opportunities and policy-making bodies.

The Usha Mehra Committee, constituted for the classifications, is expected to submit its report to the Union government. The government will verify the report and carry out classification of the community, he explained.

Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao and his team have been working hard in order to exert pressure on the Union government to introduce the classification Bill in Parliament. Mr Rajaiah was confident that the Bill would be passed in Parliament. The Madiga community will not only grow, but also be empowered by the Bill, he added.

He informed the gathering that Mr. Rao had allocated a sum of Rs 50,000crore in the Budget for improving the weaker sections in the state.

Meanwhile, Telangana State Scheduled Caste Corporation chairman Pidamarthi Ravi lauded Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao for giving priority to the Madiga community in welfare schemes and for offering key posts to public representatives belonging to the community. Mr. Ravi stated that their community was enjoying a distinctive status with the advent of the TRS in the state. The CM ha introduced schemes such as Kalyana Laxmi for Dalit families. “ At the same time, Dr. T. Rajaiah has been appointed as the deputy CM of state.” said Mr Ravi.
