Matters of the heart: A look at the major break-ups and link-ups

A photo of Arpita being kissed by both her brothers went viral on Twitter

Mumbai: Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan:

About-to-be-wed Arpita Khan managed single-handedly what others hadn’t been able to before: She got bade bhaiyya Salman and Shah Rukh Khan (who she’s always looked up to as an elder brother) to reconcile. A photo of Arpita being kissed by both her brothers went viral on Twitter, and sent the message home in a way all those pics of the Khans hugging at iftar parties couldn’t.

Anushka Sharma and Virat Kohli:

They finally stopped playing hide-n-seek and admitted that they’re in love! At the launch of his clothing line, Virat unequivocally said that he and Anushka were in a relationship: “It’s out in the open. We’re not hiding anything… we would not like to speak about it because it’s something that’s very personal for us...”

Hrithik Roshan and Sussanne Khan:

After the shocking announcement of their split in 2013, and subsequent rumours (demands for an extravagant alimony, talk of extra-marital affairs), the formal end to the Hrithik Roshan-Sussanne Khan marriage took place in a quiet, dignified manner this year when a family court judge finalised their divorce.

Rani Mukherjee and Aditya Chopra:

They’ve had the most hush-hush of relationships since 2008. In 2014, they decided to tie the knot at a (true to form) super-secretive ceremony in Italy. Not that marriage has made Rani Mukerji and Aditya Chopra any more willing to step out in public! Another couple that tied the knot was Dia Mirza and Sahil Sangha.

Katrina Kaif and Ranbir Kapoor:

Their “love nest” in the suburb of Bandra was the subject of much discussion for ages. Amid much talk about mom Neetu Kapoor’s alleged disapproval, Ranbir and ladylove Katrina Kaif did move into their own apartment, and started a new chapter in their relationship.

Riteish Deshmukh-Genelia D’Souza and Imran Khan-Avantika Malik:

For the Deshmukhs and Khans, this was a year of adding to their family. Riteish and Ginny brought home their baby boy, while for Imran-Avantika, it was a little girl.

Soha Ali Khan and Kunal Khemu:

Longtime couple Kunal Khemu and Soha Ali Khan announced that they were engaged this July, after a holiday in Paris. “It gives me great happiness to share with you all that Kunal proposed to me in Paris with the most perfect ring in the world and I said yes,” a happy Soha tweeted. The Pataudis are now gearing up for a big, fat royal wedding in January 2015.

Bipasha Basu and Harman Baweja:

They seemed to be made for each other: She supported him as he promoted his comeback film Dishkiyaaoon and they were openly affectionate over social media. But it seems like the curtains have come down on this relationship in 2014. Pooja Bhatt also announced the end of her 11-year marriage to Manish Makhija, tweeting, “To all those who care and especially those that don’t my husband Munna and me have decided to part ways after 11 glorious years of marriage. Our split, as some might call it, is amicable and we hold each other in the highest esteem for now and forever.”

Preity Zinta and Ness Wadia:

They had managed a fairly quiet end to their relationship, but things got ugly between the former couple and co-owners of the Kings XI Punjab team this year, when a spat at one of their matches turned into a legal tussle. Preity accused Ness of attacking her physically and verbally, and filed a complaint with the Mumbai Police. While Ness on his part, has denied the allegations, Preity thanked her supporters with this tweet: “Big Thank U 2 all the people 4 the support. Amazed at how much speculation in the media. No I’m not selling my stake or settling in the US”.

Did they get together:

Young Bollywood offered plenty to keep stargazers occupied, stepping out together at various events and igniting talks of romance. Among those were Sonakshi Sinha-Arjun Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor-Aditya Roy Kapur. As for what their relationship status is (or lack thereof), we guess only 2015, and the stars themselves, can tell.
