TNCC chief wants Mahasabha cadres arrested
Chennai: Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president E.V.K.S. Elangovan on Saturday asked Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam to take steps to arrest the functionaries of Akhil Bharatiya Hindu Mahasabha who "threaten public peace" by seeking to install busts of Nathuram Godse. Hindu Mahasabha has put up wall posters across Tamil Nadu declaring that they will be installing busts of Godse in the State, Elangovan told reporters here.
"It is laudable that the police have removed such posters in Erode," he said adding all such posters should be removed.Such activities of the Mahasabha functionaries, which threaten peace, should be dealt with firmly, he said. "Portraying an assassin as a hero is very dangerous. This will endanger peace," he said."We will stage a protest in front of the Mahasabha office if our demand seeking arrest is not met."
Referring to BJP chief Amit Shah's comment that Tamil Nadu was a top priority for his party, he ridiculed him saying "there is no such party as the BJP in Tamil Nadu." Asserting that Congress was not a party that would fold up due to electoral losses, he recalled how his party's veteran leader Indira Gandhi bounced back to power after a humiliating loss in general elections following the Emergency.
