Six swine flu cases in Hyderabad

Increasing cases blamed on cold weather and carriers of the virus

Hyderabad: Six cases of swine flu were recorded in the city on Saturday. The youngest patient is a 17-month old boy from Secunderabad.

Doctors said the child had come in contact with a person who was carrying the swine flu virus.

Dr K. Narsimulu, professor of internal medicine at Gandhi Hospital said, “There is no age bar for swine flu.

The infant must have come in contact with a carrier and from there it got transmitted. With early diagnosis and proper treatment it can be brought under control.”

The infant is now undergoing treatment at a private hospital and Gandhi Hospital so far has not got any intimation about the same. Apart from this child, two people aged 54 from New Bowenpally and Mahbubnagar have also been diagnosed with swine flu.

The other two cases are that of two men aged 27 and 36. They are also undergoing treatment in private hospitals. Another case is of a 63-year-old female from KPHB. She is under treatment and observation.

The increasing cases are due to the weather and also coming in contact with those who are the carriers of the virus. Senior pulmonologist Dr Subhakar K. explained, “It is important for those who have severe cough and cold to stay at home for two to three days. This is the best prevention method to control the virus.”
