Jammu and Kashmir government formation: Talks go on but tie-up elusive
PDP seeks assurance from BJP over Article 370, AFSPA
Srinagar: Days of discussions and overt and covert engagements between the stakeholders have, so far, failed to break the political logjam in Jammu and Kashmir after the split mandate obtained from just-concluded Assembly elections.
Meanwhile, the regional People’s Democratic Party has set tough conditions for the BJP, declaring that its stand against revocation of Article 370 is “non-negotiable” and also revocation of the contentious Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act forms the “core agenda” of the party.
BJP general secretary Ram Madhav on Saturday returned to New Delhi after holding a series of discussions with senior PDP leader Muzaffar Hussain Baig on government formation. While reiterating that the BJP has a “crucial mandate” in Jammu and Kashmir and, therefore, will be involved in government formation, he said that talks on the issue are going on with other parties, including the PDP.
